Security and hosting
Where your institution's data lives, in plain words.
Student records, fees and marks are the most sensitive things a school keeps. Here is exactly where ProEMS stores them, how they're backed up and who gets to see them.

Hosting and backups
Hosted in Mumbai, backed up every day.
We look after the servers, the database and the backups, so your office doesn't have to.
Hosted on AWS in Mumbai
ProEMS runs on Amazon Web Services in its Mumbai region (ap-south-1).
An encrypted database
Your institution's database runs on Amazon RDS with encryption at rest switched on.
Backed up every day
Automated daily backups, and the database can be restored to a point in time within the last 7 days.
Files on Amazon S3
Photos, documents and other files are stored on Amazon S3 with server-side encryption.
Kept apart
Your own database, your own address.
Each institution on ProEMS gets its own database and its own web address, such as yourschool.proems.in. Your records aren't kept in tables shared with other schools.
Your staff, students and parents sign in at your address, and the app finds it from your institution's code.
Inside ProEMS
The right people see the right records.
Access is set by your institution, role by role. ProEMS keeps a record of what happens.
Roles and permissions
Your admin gives each role read-only or full edit rights, module by module. Modules you haven't switched on don't appear at all.
Passwords stored as hashes
Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes, never as readable text.
Protected forms
Forms in ProEMS are protected against cross-site request forgery (CSRF), so another website can't submit them in your name.
Logs
User logs and change logs, plus logs of the emails, SMS and app notifications ProEMS sends.
Security questions
What schools ask about their data.
Something we haven't covered? Ask us before you sign anything.
- Where is ProEMS hosted?
- On Amazon Web Services in Mumbai (the ap-south-1 region). The database runs on Amazon RDS and uploaded files are stored on Amazon S3, both encrypted at rest.
- Is our data stored together with other schools' data?
- No. Each institution has its own database and its own web address, for example yourschool.proems.in. Your records aren't kept in tables shared with other institutions.
- How often is our data backed up?
- Every day, automatically. The database can be restored to a point in time within the last 7 days.
- Who decides what each person can see?
- Your institution does. For each module, your admin gives each role read-only or full edit rights, and can add roles of your own, such as an assistant accountant.
- How do people sign in?
- On the web, with their email and password. In the app, they enter your institution's code once and then sign in with their email and password.
- How do we raise a security question or concern?
- Email hello@proems.in or call +91 79410 58582, Monday to Saturday, 9:30 am to 6:30 pm IST. We reply within one working day.
