ICSE report card format for Classes IX and X, in Word and PDF.
CISCE doesn't prescribe a report card for schools, so this is a practical one built on the ICSE Regulations: subjects in Groups I, II and III, internal and written marks for each term, the average that promotion is decided on, and SUPW and Community Service graded A to E.

CISCE doesn't prescribe a report card
There's no official ICSE report card format. We didn't find one in the ICSE Regulations for the 2028 examination, the year this session's Class IX students sit it, or in the other CISCE documents we checked. The regulations don't give the marks range behind each grade either.
So this card is a practical layout, not an official one. Everything on it comes from what the regulations do say: the subject groups, the split between internal and written marks, the pass mark and the promotion rule. Change the layout to suit your school, and keep the rules.
What CISCE does set for Class IX
The Class IX final exam is conducted by the school. The head of the school is responsible for promotion to Class X, on the student's cumulative achievement through the year, and the regulations give the rule:
- At least 33% in five subjects, each one separately, including English, on the cumulative average.
- At least 75% attendance of the working days.
No other criteria are to be used. The regulations add that a transfer certificate shouldn't say "Promoted to Class X" for a student who hasn't met them.
That's why the card shows an average for each subject. The regulations don't say how a school should weight its terms, so this card averages the two term totals equally. If your school counts the final exam for more, change the heading and the sum.
The attendance row shows days present out of working days for each term, so the 75% check is on the card. For entry to the ICSE exam, the same 75% applies in each year of the two-year course, counted up to 15 February. The Chief Executive and Secretary can condone a shortage down to 60%. To keep the count, use the free attendance register.
Subject groups and the marks split
ICSE candidates take at least six subjects: the three in Group I, two or three from Group II and one or two from Group III. CISCE expects that candidates will normally take both Mathematics and Science.
| Group | Subjects | Internal, written |
|---|---|---|
| Group I, compulsory | English, a second language (one or two), and History, Civics and Geography | 20, 80 |
| Group II, two or three | Mathematics, Science, Economics, Commercial Studies, a modern foreign language, a classical language, Environmental Science | 20, 80 |
| Group III, one or two | One subject from Section A or Section B, or two with one from each. Section A has subjects such as Computer Applications, Art, Home Science and Physical Education; Section B has subjects such as Robotics and Artificial Intelligence | 50, 50 |
In the ICSE exam, internal assessment is the assignments, project work, practicals and course work done in school. The school submits those marks to CISCE online, and they're added to the written paper's marks. The regulations don't say a school has to use the same split in its own Class IX exams. This card does, so Class IX marks read the same way as the board's.
On the card, English and History, Civics and Geography are printed. Write in the second language and the Group II and III subjects: there are three rows for Group II and two for Group III. If a student takes two second languages, add a row in Group I.
Grades 1 to 9, and SUPW A to E
On the ICSE result, each subject is shown by a grade from 1 to 9, with 1 the highest:
- 1 and 2: very good
- 3, 4 and 5: pass with credit
- 6 and 7: pass
- 8 and 9: fail
The regulations don't give the marks for each grade, and we haven't found an official CISCE table, so the card shows marks and leaves grades off. If your school wants to show grades, set your own bands and print them on the card, so nobody reads them as CISCE's.
The pass mark is 33% in each subject. For a pass certificate, a candidate passes at least five subjects including English, and also gets a pass grade in Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW) and Community Service. The school assesses SUPW and Community Service and grades it A to E: A, B, C and D are passes, and E is a fail. The card has a row for it in each term.
To check a set of marks against the pass rules, use the ICSE percentage calculator.
For ISC, Classes XI and XII
An ISC card needs a few changes. From the ISC Regulations for the 2028 examination:
- The pass mark is 35% in each subject, not 33%.
- Promotion from Class XI to XII needs at least 35% in five subjects, each one separately, including English or Modern English, on the cumulative average, and 75% attendance.
- Grades 1 to 6 are a pass with credit, 7 and 8 a pass, and 9 a fail. Grades 1 and 2 are very good.
- There are no subject groups. English or Modern English is compulsory, with four or five electives and no more than six subjects in all. Some subjects have a practical paper as well as theory, and the regulations don't set one split for every subject, so check each subject's syllabus for its marks.
SUPW and Community Service is graded A to E in ISC too, with E a fail.
How to fill in the report card
- Fill in the student's details. Write the student's name, class and section, parent or guardian, roll number, admission number and session.
- Write in the subjects. English and History, Civics and Geography are printed. Add the second language under Group I and the student's Group II and III subjects.
- Enter each term's marks. For Groups I and II, enter internal marks out of 20 and written marks out of 80. For Group III, 50 and 50. Add them for the term total.
- Work out the average. Add the two term totals and halve the sum, unless your school weights the terms differently.
- Grade SUPW and record attendance. Give SUPW and Community Service a grade from A to E for each term, and write days present out of working days.
- Add the result and sign. Check the promotion rule, write the remarks and the result, and have the class teacher, principal and parent sign.

FAQ
Questions schools ask about this format.
Something we haven't covered? Ask us. We reply within one working day.
- Is there an official ICSE report card format?
- No. The ICSE Regulations don't set one, and we didn't find one in other CISCE documents. A school designs its own, within the regulations' rules on subjects, internal assessment, pass marks and promotion.
- What marks does a student need to be promoted from Class IX to Class X?
- At least 33% in five subjects, each one separately, including English, on the cumulative average for the year, and at least 75% attendance. The ICSE Regulations say no other criteria are to be used.
- How are ICSE internal assessment marks split?
- For Group I and Group II subjects, 20% internal assessment and 80% written exam. For Group III subjects, 50% each.
- What marks give an ICSE grade 1 or 2?
- The ICSE Regulations don't give the marks behind each grade, and we haven't found an official CISCE table. They only say grades 1 and 2 are very good, 3 to 5 a pass with credit, 6 and 7 a pass, and 8 and 9 a fail.
- What does an E in SUPW mean?
- A fail. SUPW and Community Service is graded A to E by the school; A to D are passes. A candidate needs a pass grade in it to get the ICSE pass certificate.
- Can I use this card for ISC Classes XI and XII?
- With changes. The ISC pass mark is 35%, there are no subject groups, and the ISC Regulations don't fix one internal and written split for every subject, so check each subject's syllabus.
