CISCE registration: how ICSE and ISC schools register candidates.

Schools register ICSE and ISC candidates with CISCE, not parents or students. The school registers each candidate online on CISCE's CAREERS portal in Class IX (ICSE) or Class XI (ISC), then confirms the entries in Class X or XII.[1, 2] The school pays the exam charges at confirmation: ₹4,350 for each ICSE candidate and ₹5,450 for each ISC candidate at a school in India, and they aren't refundable.[1, 3] Below are the dates, the data, the fees, the corrections, and what “council list” does and doesn't mean.

On this page

Who registers candidates with CISCE, and on which portal?

The school does. CISCE's regulations say candidates “must be registered online” in Class IX for ICSE and in Class XI for ISC.[1, 2] ISC candidates can be entered only by the school they attend, and the Head's decision is final. Private candidates aren't permitted in either exam.[1, 2]

The school's way in is the CAREERS portal at careers.cisce.org. Its login page asks for a user name, a password and a captcha, and shows helpdesk@cisce.org for help.[4]

Students and parents don't register candidates themselves. CISCE's FAQ says the Council “does not correspond directly with candidates, parents or guardians in any matter”,[5] and the 2028 regulations say the same about correction requests.[1]

Don't confuse CAREERS with CISCE's Public Services portal. That one is for individuals and organisations who need a certificate verified or a duplicate document. They register with an email address and pay online.[6, 7]

Which classes does CISCE register, and when in the year?

CISCE registers ICSE candidates in Class IX and ISC candidates in Class XI. It then asks the school to confirm the entries in the exam year, which is Class X or Class XII.[1, 2]

How CISCE's Year 2028 regulations place each step

Candidates who come into Class XI from another board need an Eligibility Number first. CISCE's Chief Executive and Secretary decides their eligibility, the school is told online, and the student is then registered online using the number.[2] The fee sheet lists ₹1,000 for the number.[3] The last date for regularising admission to Class XI is 31 August each year.[2]

Candidates now in Class X or XII, who sit the Year 2027 exams, follow the same pattern: entries confirmed online, with the exam charges paid at confirmation.[8, 9]

CBSE works differently. Its schools submit a List of Candidates for the Class X and Class XII main exams (the 2026-27 circular is dated 17 September 2026), and only students whose names go in through that process can sit them.[10] Our nominal roll page covers the term.

What are the CISCE registration dates for 2026-27?

As of 21 October 2026, news reports of CISCE's announcement give the windows below. We couldn't find the circular itself on CISCE's website, so check it before you rely on a date.[11, 12, 13]

What the school doesNormal windowLate window

Register ISC 2028 candidates (Class XI)5 August to 15 November 2026None reported
Dates as reported in news coverage, read 21 October 2026.[11, 12, 13]

The Free Press Journal says the announcement was a CISCE post on X dated 8 August 2026. None of the three reports gives a circular number.[11]

The regulations themselves say registrations received after the due date will not be accepted.[1, 2] The news reports describe late windows for ICSE 2028 registration and 2027 confirmation. The two don't sit easily together, and the circular is the document that settles it. If you're close to a deadline, ask the CISCE helpdesk.

The reports don't give the late fee. CISCE's fee sheet lists two late charges of ₹1,000 a candidate for “up to 15 days after last date”, one for late payment of the exam fee and one for late Class IX registration.[3] They match the two 15-day windows above, but we haven't found CISCE saying that they apply to them.

What does the CISCE registration form ask for?

The regulations tell schools to take special care over the candidate's name, the parents' or guardian's names and the date of birth, and they set rules for subjects.[1, 2] CISCE's 2014 school manual adds a photograph and a signature.[14]

DetailWhat the sources say
Candidate's nameThe certificate shows the name as the Head of the School certified it at the time of entry.[1]
Mother's, father's or guardian's nameSame rule as the candidate's name. In the 2014 manual, a proposed guardian needs scanned supporting documents.[1, 14]
Date of birthSame rule as the candidate's name.[1]
Subjects, ICSEAt least six. English, a second language, and History, Civics and Geography are compulsory, plus two or three from Group II and one or two from Group III.[1]
Subjects, ISCEnglish or Modern English, plus four or five electives, and no more than six subjects in all.[2]
Photograph2014 manual: a passport-size colour photo in school uniform against a white background, with the face taking up 75% of the photo.[14]
Signature2014 manual: the candidate's signature, scanned or captured and uploaded.[14]
Details a school enters for each candidate

The photo and signature rules are from 2014

The photograph and signature points come from CISCE's “Registration Module V 2.0” manual for ICSE, which refers to the ICSE 2016 exam. CISCE's own link to it no longer works, so we read an Internet Archive copy. We couldn't get the ISC manual. The manual's subject rules also differ from the 2028 regulations, so the table takes subjects from the regulations.[14] Read the instructions inside CAREERS before you start, and treat this table as a list of what the office should have ready.

For subjects, the regulations also say a candidate can't change subjects after 15 September of the registration year, and can't take in Class X or XII a subject not studied in Class IX or XI.[1, 2] The Head of the School is responsible for the right subject selection for university or professional course needs.[2]

What are the CISCE registration fees?

For a school in India, CISCE charges ₹1,000 a candidate to register in Class IX and ₹4,350 (ICSE) or ₹5,450 (ISC) in exam charges, which the school pays at confirmation.[1, 2, 3] For a school abroad, the exam charge is ₹10,000 a candidate for both exams.[3]

ChargeAmount
Registration in Class IX₹1,000
Eligibility Number for a Class XI candidate from another board₹1,000
ICSE main exam, school in India₹4,350
ISC main exam, school in India₹5,450
Late Class IX registration, up to 15 days after the last date₹1,000
Late payment of exam fee, up to 15 days after the last date₹1,000
Correction of a candidate's name, parents' names or date of birth₹1,500
Subject correction on the day of the exam ("under protest")₹2,500
Transfer of a candidate from one school to another₹1,500
Duplicate admission card₹750
Charges from CISCE's fee sheet, read 21 October 2026.[3]

Schools pay online. The regulations say exam charges are paid at the time of confirming entries, and that they're not refundable.[1, 2] The sheet lists a registration charge for Class IX but none for registering in Class XI, only the ₹1,000 Eligibility Number for candidates from another board.[3] What a school then charges parents is the school's own decision, and CISCE's sheet doesn't cover it.

Two things the fee sheet doesn't explain

The sheet is undated,[3] and CISCE's regulations say it can revise its charges.[1, 2] The sheet also lists “Annual Registration Charges” of ₹30,000 and ₹5,000 a month for paying late, with no word on who pays or for what. We haven't counted them as candidate charges. Ask CISCE or your accountant.

What are the CISCE registration number and registration card?

CISCE's documents use four identifiers that don't all mean the same thing: Unique ID, Index Number, Registration Number and Eligibility Number. The school office holds them, so a parent who asks for a registration number should be pointed to the school.

  • Unique ID and Index Number. CISCE's Public Services FAQ tells a candidate who has forgotten the “Index Number or UID” to ask the former school's office. It says “as applicable to you” and doesn't explain which candidates have which.[7]
  • Registration Number. The 2014 manual lists it beside Unique ID as a way to search for a candidate being re-registered.[14] The current regulations and FAQs don't define it, and we found no source on its format.
  • Eligibility Number. Issued, on payment, to a Class XI candidate who passed an equivalent exam of another board.[2]

The registration card is a separate document. CISCE's older FAQ says the Principal downloads it through the CAREERS portal, attests it and hands it to the student, for example when the student applies to move to another school.[5] That FAQ's footer says 2022, so check whether the process has changed. For a duplicate, CISCE's Public Services FAQ tells candidates who appeared after 2013 to contact their school.[7]

What is a council list?

We couldn't confirm what it is, because no CISCE document we read uses the term. We searched the ICSE and ISC regulations for the Year 2027 and Year 2028 exams, the Public Services FAQ and the fee sheet. None mentions a “council list”.[1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9]

What CISCE's documents do describe is the sequence: the school registers candidates, reviews the entries, confirms them online and pays.[1, 2] Those entries live in CAREERS. We found no source saying a separate “council list” is part of that, who asks for it or what it holds, so we won't guess. If a school or a vendor hands you one, ask what it's meant to be checked against.

In ProEMS, Council List is the name of one export from Student records, next to the nominal roll, and it shows when ProEMS is set up for a school rather than a college. It's a PDF or Excel list from your own student data. We don't claim it matches a CISCE format or loads into CAREERS, and you'd still enter or check candidates on the portal yourself. Student records are in the Silver plan. See the page for ICSE and ISC schools.

How do you correct a mistake in a candidate's CISCE entry?

Only the school can ask, online. A student or parent can't apply to CISCE directly, and CISCE says “no other form of application will be accepted”.[1, 7]

Before the result

Schools can view the entries online and submit entry or subject corrections with supporting documents. They are free until 31 August of the following year. After that, corrections are chargeable for each candidate and each correction.[1, 2] The fee sheet puts a correction of the name, parents' names or date of birth at ₹1,500.[3] Read literally, “the following year” means 31 August 2027 for a candidate registered in 2026-27.

The certificate shows the name and date of birth as the Head certified them at entry. No later change is allowed unless the Head certifies, with due justification, that the candidate made a mistake on the online form or that the school records were changed on the basis of a birth certificate or another competent document. Failing that, CISCE asks for a court order.[1] The regulations put the onus of certifying on the Head, who “shall be held liable in case of any legal dispute”.[1] If a case turns on that, ask the school's lawyer.

For ISC, the regulations say a candidate's particulars are carried forward exactly as they were entered for ICSE or the equivalent exam, with no later changes.[2] The same regulations still give a correction route, so if your case sits between the two, ask the helpdesk.

After the result

CISCE entertains a date-of-birth correction only within three years of the result, only if the Head forwards it, and only to match the school's own records. If it approves, the candidate must hand back the original certificates for a revised one.[1]

  1. Birth certificate from a competent government authority

A copy, attested by the Principal.
  2. Original Admission Form

A copy of the form submitted at admission, attested by the Principal.
  3. Admission and Withdrawal Register

Copies of the relevant pages, attested by the Principal.
  4. Transfer certificate

Only for a transfer admission, a copy attested by the Principal.
  5. Affidavit

Sworn before a First Class Magistrate, signed by a parent if the candidate is a minor.

That list is for a date-of-birth correction.[1] Name corrections have their own list, and the ISC regulations say the guidelines follow circular CISCE/PUBSER/COE-HYD/001 dated 29/05/2025, which we couldn't find.[2] If the school is no longer affiliated to CISCE, the candidate can email helpdesk@cisce.org.[7]

How do admit cards reach candidates?

Through the school. For the 2026 exams, a news report said only school authorities can download ICSE admit cards from CISCE's website and that students must collect them from their school heads.[15] The same report lists the school stamp, seal and principal's signature among the features of the card.[15]

CISCE's own documents point the same way. Its Public Services FAQ tells candidates who appeared after 2017 and need a duplicate admit card to contact their school,[7] and the fee sheet lists ₹750 for a duplicate admission card.[3] CISCE uses both “admit card” and “admission card”.[8, 9]

We found no CISCE notice yet on admit cards for the 2027 exams, so the 2026 pattern is the best guide. Check the circular when it comes. Our admit card page covers the term.

What should a school check before it confirms entries?

Check the details that are hard to change later: names, date of birth, parents' names and subjects. Then check attendance and the payment.

  1. Names and date of birth against the admission register

The certificate shows them as the Head certified them at entry, and later changes need documents or a court order.[1]
  2. Parents' or guardian's names

These sit under the same rule as the candidate's name.[1]
  3. Subjects against what the candidate studied

A candidate can't take in Class X or XII a subject not studied in Class IX or XI, and subjects can't change after 15 September of the registration year.[1, 2]
  4. Attendance

First-time entry needs 75% attendance in each year of the two-year course. For ICSE, CISCE's Chief Executive and Secretary can condone a shortfall, normally down to 60%.[1]
  5. Transfer admissions in Class X or XII

CISCE's older FAQ says the admitting school applies online for CISCE's prior approval.[5] The fee sheet lists ₹1,500 for a transfer.[3]
  6. The count and the payment

Exam charges are paid at confirmation and aren't refundable, so check the number of candidates first. Candidates can be withdrawn online before the exam starts, but once CISCE has accepted the entries, only on medical grounds or at the parents' written request.[1, 2] Keep a copy of the payment record.

FAQ

Common questions

Short answers. The sections above have the detail and the sources.

Can a private candidate take the ICSE or ISC?
No. Both the ICSE and ISC regulations for the Year 2028 say private candidates are not permitted to appear. ISC candidates can be entered only by the school they attend. CISCE's older FAQ adds that candidates from other boards can't take ICSE directly and must register in Class IX as regular candidates of an affiliated school.
Is there a CISCE registration form to download?
We found none. CISCE's regulations say candidates are registered online, and the school does it on the CAREERS portal. The details come from the school's own records, and CISCE says corrections are made only on details consistent with those records.
What if a student joins Class XI from another board?
The school asks CISCE, which decides eligibility. The ISC regulations for 2028 require a pass in an equivalent exam of a recognised board, with pass marks in English and four other subjects. The school can admit the student provisionally and must submit certified copies of the statement of marks online. If the student is eligible, CISCE issues an Eligibility Number on payment (₹1,000 on the fee sheet) and the school registers the student with it.
Who do we contact if the school is no longer affiliated to CISCE?
The candidate can email helpdesk@cisce.org, according to CISCE's Public Services FAQ. The helpdesk then gets in touch and asks for the details it needs before it starts the correction process.
Can a school withdraw a candidate after the entries are confirmed?
Yes, online and before the exam starts. Once CISCE has acknowledged and accepted the entries, the Head can withdraw a candidate only on medical grounds, certified by a registered medical practitioner and with the parents' written request, or at the parents' or guardians' express written request. Exam charges are not refundable.
Where can a school get help with the CAREERS portal?
The CAREERS login page shows helpdesk@cisce.org. CISCE's Public Services FAQ gives the same email address and a toll-free number, 1800-203-2414.
